Strategic Cooperation: Africa focus areas / AFRIDEX 2026
ASIM, Oct 02
Africa’s defence-industrial opportunity is increasingly being shaped by localisation, sustainment and structured cooperation.
September activity points to a clear direction of travel. Nigeria and Türkiye advanced discussions around investment, innovation, technology transfer and joint production. The Nigerian Army and NORINCO commenced operations at their Comprehensive Service Centre in Bauchi, while MKE established a Cairo subsidiary to support commercial activity and joint-production pathways.
In South Africa, Armscor and Denel reaffirmed closer cooperation, while Rheinmetall Denel Munition signed an MoU with the Ward 109 Development Forum focused on skills, SMME participation and local development.
The capability-development dimension is equally important. The EU Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique reports more than 70 assistance programmes involving over 1,900 Mozambican personnel since September 2024.
For Norinco International Cooperation Ltd., MKE, Armscor, Denel Land Systems, Rheinmetall Denel Munition and organisations developing MRO, training, local production and resilient defence and security supply chains, these developments reinforce the importance of credible cooperation pathways across African markets.
Africa International Defence Exhibition brings governments, armed forces and industry together in Lagos from 26–29 October 2026.
