Spain and Germany Sign New Space Domain Agreement during ILA Berlin 2026

The Chief of Staff of the Spanish Air and Space Force (JEMA), Air General Francisco Braco Carbó, participated in the recent Luftwaffe Air and Space Chiefs Conference (LASCC), hosted by the Chief of the German Air Force, Lieutenant General Holger Neumann. The high-level forum focused on addressing current and future challenges in the air and space domains.
Key Highlights of the Bilateral Agreement: Following the conference, both leaders signed a formal Letter of Intent (LOI) to expand bilateral relations in the space domain, aimed at enhancing operational capabilities and interoperability through several key commitments:
- Promoting Peaceful Space Use: Advancing a secure, stable, responsible, and sustainable use of space while preserving freedom of action.
- Deepening Space Cooperation: Strengthening joint efforts in Space Situational Awareness (SSA), Space Domain Awareness (SDA), space intelligence, and space operations.
- Information Exchange: Sharing strategic data regarding each nation’s capabilities, developments, planning, and future intentions.
- Operational Synergy: Boosting mutual expertise through joint exercises, training programs, and operator exchange initiatives.
The event also marked the celebration of the German Air Force’s 70th anniversary. The Spanish delegation concluded the visit at the ILA Berlin Air Show 2026, where General Braco Carbó held high-level meetings with key defense industry leaders like Airbus D&S and MBDA, while Eurofighters from Spain’s 14th Wing (Ala 14) demonstrated their world-class capabilities in the air.
