Flydubai and GE Aerospace announced a major order for 60 GEnx-1B engines to power the airline’s first widebody fleet of 30 Boeing 787-9 aircraft, along with spare engines and a long-term services agreement. Signed at the Dubai Airshow 2025, the deal supports flydubai’s strategy to expand capacity, meet rising passenger demand, and launch long-haul operations. Founded in 2008, the carrier now serves more than 135 destinations across 57 countries and is preparing to integrate long-haul destinations into its growing network.
The choice of GEnx-1B engines reflects flydubai’s confidence in GE Aerospace’s efficiency, reliability, and durability—key attributes for operations in the region’s challenging environments. Leaders from both companies highlighted the engines’ role in supporting the airline’s next phase of growth as it transitions to a mixed fleet that now includes the fuel-efficient Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The GEnx family, GE’s fastest-selling high-thrust engine with over 62 million flight hours, powers two-thirds of the world’s 787s and is certified to run on current SAF blends. GE Aerospace, a long-standing partner in the UAE for over 40 years, continues to invest locally through engineering, MRO, and technology centers to support the country’s aviation ambitions.
