Air Domain at AFRIDEX 2026

Africa’s air domain in August came down to two things. Fast jets and drones.

The Nigerian Air Force completed Factory Acceptance Tests for the first batch of three Leonardo M-346FA aircraft, a delivery milestone in Nigeria’s fast-jet recapitalisation programme.

On the unmanned side, Côte d’Ivoire confirmed operation of Wing Loong II MALE drones and Mali reportedly received an additional batch of Turkish Akıncı drones.

Counter-UAS is moving at the same pace. Paramount Aerospace Systems added Aselsan‘s ASELFLIR-500 targeting turret to the Mwari’s counter-UAS configuration.

Algeria also donated Mi-24 and Mi-171 helicopters to Niger, a reminder that intra-African defence support brings sustainment and spares demand with it.
Air capability, unmanned systems and the means to counter them all sit on the AFRIDEX 2026 floor.
