ASIM, Mar12
The manufacturer of the Do228 NXT multi-role aircraft, General Atomics AeroTec Systems GmbH (GA-ATS), will exhibit at booth E122 at FIDAE 2026 in Chile, marking the company’s first trade show participation in South America. The participation underscores the strategic importance of the South American market for the German aircraft manufacturer.
First Do228 NXT nearing completion with wing and engine installation
2026 is the year in which GA-ATS will present the first completed Do228 NXT to the global public. To this end, work is in full progress at the production line in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany. The completed wing structure and an engine were recently installed on the first aircraft in the Do228 NXT series. Furthermore, successful tests of the landing gear of the first Do228 NXT have already been carried out. Completion is now only a few months away. The Do228 NXT represents the modernized generation of the multi-role aircraft, incorporating numerous technical innovations and optimizations.
A perfect aircraft for South American operations
The Do228 NXT is particularly well-suited to the diverse operational challenges across South America. The aircraft’s outstanding STOL (Short Take-Off and Landing) capability enable operations on runways less than 500 meters long and the Do228 NXT is also suited for operations on unpaved runways.
The aircraft excels in the region’s demanding conditions, from hot-and-high performance to flights in strong crosswinds. With a long range and flexible cabin configurations, the Do228 NXT serves versatile missions including passenger transport, cargo operations, maritime patrol and medical evacuation. Do228 aircraft already operate successfully in several South American countries, including Chile. Now General Atomics AeroTec Systems returns to Chile, where the Do228 series has impressed in passenger transport operations, to participate in FIDAE and to promote the Do228 NXT.
