ASIM, Jan 25
The Spanish Air Force and Space Force will exhibit an Airbus A400M Atlas military transport aircraft at the International Air and Space Fair, FIDAE 2026.
The A400 from Wing 31, based at Zaragoza Air Base, is one of the most advanced transport aircraft in the world. Manufactured by Airbus Defence and Space, it combines tactical and strategic capabilities that make it a fundamental pillar of Spanish military air mobility.
Under the European FIMA (Future International Military Airlifter) project, initiated in 1982, Spain officially incorporated its first Atlas in 2016, ushering in a new era in the country’s airlift capabilities. Some of its main operators include Germany, France, Great Britain, Turkey, and Belgium, among others.
Its operations encompass missions such as logistical air support for unit deployment and in-flight refueling, paratrooper and cargo drops, airborne operations, air assaults, search and rescue operations, emergency humanitarian aid transport, and support for Armed Forces missions outside of Spain, such as the Non-Combatant Evacuation Operations (NEO) carried out in Afghanistan and Sudan.
The aircraft has a cruising speed of 780 km/h; a range of up to 6,390 km with a 20-ton payload; and an operational ceiling of up to 12,192 m. With a cargo capacity of 37 tons in a 340 m³ hold, its propulsion system consists of four EuroProp International TP400-D6 turboprop engines. It can transport vehicles, light helicopters, logistical pallets, and humanitarian aid. It has the capacity to transport up to 116 fully equipped military personnel or paratroopers, or for aeromedical evacuations with up to 66 stretchers.
FIDAE, with 46 years of experience, is an exhibition dedicated to showcasing technologies in Aerospace, Defense, and Security, positioning Chile as a leader in Latin America and the Chilean Air Force as a key player in the Space Technology sector and its contribution to national development.
