Lockheed Martin Awarded Contract To Develop Artificial Intelligence Tools For DARPA

ASIM, jul 08

Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has secured a $4.6 million contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop AI tools for dynamic airborne missions under the Artificial Intelligence Reinforcements (AIR) program. This initiative focuses on creating advanced Modeling and Simulation (M&S) techniques and dominant AI agents for multi-ship, beyond visual range (BVR) missions, addressing the evolving needs of national security. Over an 18-month period, Lockheed Martin will employ AI and Machine Learning (ML) methods to develop surrogate models for aircraft, sensors, electronic warfare, and weapons in dynamic, operational environments, enhancing the performance and predictive capabilities of Department of Defense systems.

The DARPA AIR program aims to improve the speed and predictive performance of government-provided baseline models, aligning them more closely with real-world Department of Defense operations. According to Gaylia Campbell, Vice President of Engineering and Technology for Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, this program will leverage advanced ML technology and Lockheed Martin’s ARISE™ infrastructure to provide service members with extensive data for faster, more informed decision-making. This not only offers significant cost savings for the Department of Defense but also lays the groundwork for future AI defense solutions, ensuring the U.S. and its allies maintain a competitive edge. Lockheed Martin’s longstanding expertise in AI and ML integration supports their vision of a more advanced, resilient, and collaborative defense industry, delivering cutting-edge capabilities efficiently and affordably.
