Lockheed Martin Sikorsky Advances to Next Phase of Next Generation Rotorcraft Capability Program

ASIM, jul 25

The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) has awarded Lockheed Martin Sikorsky a contract to explore integrated platform concepts for NATO’s Next Generation Rotorcraft Capability (NGRC) program. Sikorsky will design a rotorcraft prototype for this initiative, leveraging its X2 technology demonstrators to address the evolving defense needs of NATO. The X2 rotorcraft’s advanced features in speed, range, maneuverability, and operational flexibility are anticipated to meet NATO’s future rotorcraft requirements. Sikorsky’s European Industry Group, which includes leading aerospace suppliers such as BAE Systems, GE Aerospace, and SAFRAN, will contribute to the NGRC concept study.

This collaboration aims to integrate world-class military products into the X2 platform, enhancing NATO’s capabilities with a next-generation rotorcraft solution. The group’s expertise will support the development of a system that combines cutting-edge technology with operational efficiency.

The NGRC program, launched in 2022, involves multiple NATO member nations including France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, the UK, and Canada, with the US and Spain observing. The program seeks to develop a versatile medium-class rotorcraft to replace existing multi-role helicopters. NSPA aims to deliver a cost-effective, technologically advanced solution by leveraging recent innovations in aerospace technology and production methods.
