VoltAero and Sigma Air Mobility have forged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the 2024 Farnborough International Airshow to explore the application of VoltAero’s Cassio electric-hybrid aircraft in advanced air mobility solutions. This agreement focuses on initiating a route demonstration pilot project and evaluating the Cassio aircraft’s suitability for air ambulance services. VoltAero’s innovative parallel electric-hybrid propulsion system, which combines electric power with an internal combustion engine for extended range, will be central to these initiatives.
The partnership aims to develop technical standards for airport recharging infrastructure and explore operating models that align with decarbonization trends in the aviation industry. Jean Botti, CEO & Chief Technology Officer of VoltAero, emphasized the timely nature of the collaboration, highlighting the practical advantages of the Cassio aircraft in regional air mobility applications. Christophe Lapierre, CEO of Sigma Air Mobility, underscored the potential of electric-hybrid aircraft like Cassio in addressing regional mobility needs efficiently, leveraging existing infrastructure and advancing sustainability goals within the air transport sector.
