Raytheon, an RTX business, reported conducting 28 tests of its StormBreaker® smart weapon in 2023, achieving a 100 percent success rate in all 14 planned jettisons from the F-35C. The other 14 tests involved deployments from the F/A-18E/F, F-15E, and F-35B across the U.S. Navy, Marines, and Air Force, demonstrating the weapon’s versatility across various platforms.
StormBreaker is an air-launched, precision-strike standoff weapon designed to engage both moving and fixed targets. Its tri-mode seeker uses infrared and millimeter wave radar, enabling it to operate in adverse weather conditions such as fog, smoke, and rain. The weapon also features a two-way datalink for mid-flight target updates, allowing airborne or ground controllers to provide real-time target adjustments, enhancing its adaptability and effectiveness in diverse combat scenarios.
