Boeing has confirmed that its upcoming new aircraft, likely the 797 model, could be produced in northwest Washington. This announcement comes as labor union representatives are set to vote on a “historic contract offer” in the coming days. Boeing’s Chief Commercial Officer, Stephanie Pope, highlighted that the new contract will enable the Puget Sound team to build the new airplane, promising job security for generations and underscoring the company’s deep roots in the region.
The proposed contract includes significant benefits for employees, such as a 25% general wage increase over its duration and an immediate 11% raise. The contract also promises a $3,000 lump sum, lower medical cost shares, reduced mandatory overtime, additional paid parental leave, and greater retirement contributions. With the current contract nearing expiration, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) District 751, representing Boeing employees, views this proposal as the best in their history. Boeing’s workforce in Washington, which is the largest percentage of its global employees, will play a crucial role in the production of the new aircraft.
