Current conflicts on Europe’s borders underscore the critical importance of air superiority. Manned-Unmanned Teaming will be pivotal in achieving this: with an unmanned Wingman, fighter pilots can operate safely outside the danger zone, retaining command and decision-making authority. At Airbus Defence and Space, we already possess significant expertise in this area.
With AI support, assets like the Wingman can handle dangerous tasks such as target reconnaissance, destruction, electronic jamming, and deception of enemy air defense systems. To integrate AI into major defense programs, I welcome Helsing as a partner, contributing AI stacks with relevant software-defined mission capabilities. (By Michael Schoellhorn)
