Turkish Aerospace, TUSAŞ Engine Industries and GE Aerospace Sign MOU to Extend Collaboration on HÜRJET Advanced Training Jet Program

ASIM, jul 22

GE Aerospace has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Turkish Aerospace and TUSAŞ Engine Industries Inc. (TEI) to evaluate and integrate GE’s F404 engine into new variants of the HÜRJET aircraft. This collaboration extends their existing partnership on the HÜRJET program, Türkiye’s first domestically manufactured advanced training jet. The MOU aims to bolster Türkiye’s position as a key player in the global defense aviation industry by leveraging its advanced technological capabilities.

The prior agreement successfully integrated the F404 engine into the Turkish Air Force’s HÜRJET training jet, which is currently in the qualification phase. Under the new MOU, the companies will collaborate on flight testing and explore further applications of GE Aerospace’s Defense & Systems products. TEI, a joint venture established between GE Aerospace and Turkish Aerospace, will handle assembly, inspection, and testing of the F404 engines in Türkiye, providing maintenance and overhaul services for both domestic and export customers. This agreement also positions TEI to potentially offer services to global F404 engine users.

TEI is a crucial contributor to GE Aerospace’s global supply chain, manufacturing components for various engines and participating in new engine programs. The collaboration reinforces GE Aerospace’s nearly six-decade commitment to Türkiye’s economic development. GE Aerospace, Turkish Aerospace, and TEI complement each other, fostering continued success for the HÜRJET program. The F404 engine, used by sixteen nations, remains a versatile and proven choice for Air Force applications worldwide. GE Aerospace’s extensive presence in Türkiye includes over 440 employees and multiple facilities supporting more than 2,300 engines, underscoring the country’s role as an advanced aerospace hub.
