Swedish defence company Saab has signed a new contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for a third GlobalEye airborne early warning and control aircraft, valued at approximately SEK 2.6 billion. This advanced system will be delivered between 2024 and 2029, expanding upon a 2022 deal that included two GlobalEye aircraft with options for further expansion. Saab’s President and CEO, Micael Johansson, highlighted the importance of GlobalEye in providing situational awareness and early detection of threats across air, sea, and land, enhancing Sweden’s defence capabilities.
GlobalEye, based on the Bombardier Global 6000/6500 aircraft, integrates Saab’s Erieye Extended Range radar and a suite of sensors, ensuring comprehensive surveillance and early warning capabilities. The aircraft’s endurance of over 11 hours, combined with advanced avionics and a multi-domain command and control system, allows for prolonged operations and rapid mission-switching. With increased radar detection range, GlobalEye provides greater airspace coverage, offering critical early warning to commanders in air, naval, and ground operations, ensuring more time for strategic decision-making.
