Passenger Demand Up 9.1% in June

In June 2024, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported a 9.1% increase in global passenger demand compared to June 2023, measured in revenue passenger kilometers (RPK). Total capacity rose by 8.5% year-on-year, with a load factor of 85.0%, up by 0.5 percentage points from the previous year. International demand saw a 12.3% increase with a matching capacity rise of 12.7%, while domestic demand grew by 4.3% with a more modest capacity increase of 2.1%. Both domestic and international sectors achieved a high load factor of 85.0%, reflecting strong demand relative to capacity.

IATA Director General Willie Walsh highlighted the strong performance during the peak Northern summer travel season, emphasizing the importance of efficient operations to maintain punctuality amid high load factors. He also expressed pride in the aviation industry’s role in supporting the Olympic Games in Paris, underscoring aviation’s crucial role in connecting people globally and celebrating the athletes participating in the event.
