The Dutch Ministry of Defense has signed a contract at the Farnborough Airshow for the acquisition of nine Embraer C-390 Millennium aircraft, part of the ‘Replacement of Tactical Airlift Capacity’ project. This joint purchase, in cooperation with Austria, will see five aircraft delivered to the Royal Netherlands Air Force and four to the Austrian Air Force. The goal is to enhance both nations’ ability to rapidly deploy or evacuate equipment and personnel under challenging conditions, thereby increasing operational flexibility and responsiveness for various missions, including humanitarian and medical tasks.

The joint acquisition will also facilitate cooperation between the Netherlands, Austria, and other C-390 operators within NATO, allowing for shared training, logistics, and future platform development. The C-390 Millennium, known for its high performance, reliability, and substantial transport capacity, will significantly improve operational capacity for both air forces. This agreement underscores a successful European collaboration, supported by Embraer, and highlights the aircraft’s proven capability, with a current fleet that has accumulated over 13,000 flight hours since its introduction, demonstrating exceptional productivity and mission completion rates.
