ASIM, feb 29

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) successfully conducted the inaugural flight of the XQ-67A Off-Board Sensing Station (OBSS) on February 28, 2024. OBSS, initiated by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and entrusted to GA-ASI in 2021, represents a significant milestone in the pursuit of innovative aircraft design and functionality.

The flight of the AFRL-sponsored XQ-67A marks the culmination of the collaborative effort between AFRL and GA-ASI under the Low-Cost Attritable Aircraft Platform Sharing (LCAAPS) program. This initiative aimed to develop a flexible chassis, termed the “genus,” from which various aircraft “species” could be derived, ushering in a new era of streamlined acquisition, reduced costs, and enhanced technological adaptability. The successful demonstration of the XQ-67A represents a significant advancement toward realizing cost-effective and versatile military aircraft platforms, offering promising prospects for future combat operations.
