Virgin Australia has placed a firm order for eight Embraer E190-E2 aircraft as part of its fleet renewal strategy. The E190-E2, known for being the most fuel-efficient and quietest single-aisle aircraft, will replace the airline’s aging Fokker fleet and complement its larger narrowbody planes. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025, with the aircraft primarily serving charter flights for Virgin Australia Regional Airlines (VARA) out of Perth. The new aircraft will significantly reduce emissions by about 30% compared to the older F100 models and offer enhanced passenger comfort.
The E190-E2’s introduction marks a major investment by Virgin Australia in the Western Australian charter market and is expected to solidify the airline’s position as a leading operator in the region. Embraer, committed to sustainable aviation, highlighted the E190-E2’s advanced aerodynamics and technology that improve fuel efficiency and lower carbon emissions. The aircraft has been certified to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and has demonstrated the capability to fly with 100% SAF in tests. This order strengthens Embraer’s presence in Australia, where it already has one of the largest E-Jets fleets in the Asia-Pacific region.
