Boeing has secured a $2.56 billion contract from the U.S. Air Force to develop and support two rapid prototype E-7A AEW&C Wedgetail aircraft. These aircraft, based on the Boeing 737-700 NG airframe, will enhance the Air Force’s capabilities in targeted tracking, battle management, and command-and-control. The E-7A is already in service with several other nations, including Australia, South Korea, and Turkey, and is known for its high mission readiness, lower operating costs, and strong interoperability with global forces.
The E-7A Wedgetail is recognized as a vital asset for air superiority in modern combat environments. Boeing emphasizes its commitment to delivering mission-ready capabilities to the U.S. Air Force, aiming for long-term growth and adaptability of the aircraft. The company is also producing E-7As for the Royal Air Force, with NATO selecting this platform as its preferred AEW&C solution. The U.S. Air Force, Royal Air Force, and Royal Australian Air Force have a tri-lateral agreement to collaborate on the E-7’s development, interoperability, and overall mission effectiveness.
