Skyportz has announced three orders exceeding 1,000 units for their patented modular vertipad solution, unveiled at the 2024 Farnborough International Airshow. The vertipads, designed to support the emerging air taxi industry, address various challenges such as passenger safety, downwash, battery fires, and environmental impacts. The product, which can be easily installed on airport tarmacs or new vertiport sites, offers an affordable and scalable solution that is a significant improvement over traditional landing pads.
CEO Clem Newton-Brown highlighted that the design, although still under refinement, has received an overwhelmingly positive response from industry colleagues under Non-Disclosure Agreements. Initial orders have come from an aircraft OEM and infrastructure investors, with the expectation that the product will attract further interest from aviation, property, and infrastructure sectors. The modular vertipads enable operations on smaller footprints, making them a cost-effective option for establishing safe and profitable vertiport sites. Newton-Brown emphasized that the mass production of vertiport infrastructure is crucial for the air taxi industry to reach its full potential.
