Bell Textron Inc. announced that the U.S. Army has approved the Milestone B decision for the Future Long Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA), marking the start of the weapon system’s Program of Record (PoR). This milestone sets the course for delivering advanced capabilities to the U.S. Army, with Bell’s FLRAA team focusing on the next phase of Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD). The approval follows years of collaboration between Bell, the U.S. Army, and other partners to refine requirements, reduce risk, and ensure the integration and effectiveness of the aircraft’s design.
With the Milestone B decision, Bell and the FLRAA team are set to design, build, and test FLRAA prototypes, aiming to deliver a transformational aircraft for the U.S. Army. Following the contract award in December 2022, Bell has established new facilities and innovative manufacturing processes to support the program’s execution. The FLRAA will leverage mature tiltrotor technology, digital engineering, and an open architecture to achieve twice the range and speed of the current fleet, promising reliability, affordability, and high performance.
