Lilium, a leading electric aircraft manufacturer and pioneer in Regional Air Mobility (RAM), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SEA, which operates Milan’s airports, and Skyports, a leader in vertiport infrastructure for the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) industry. This collaboration aims to launch a vertiport network for the Lilium Jet by 2027. SEA will be the majority shareholder, leveraging its airport management expertise and regional aviation knowledge, while Skyports will provide its vertiport infrastructure development and operational experience.
The strategic partnership focuses on the Lombardy region, home to nearly a fifth of Italy’s population and attracting over 37 million visitors annually. This region is ideal for integrating regional air mobility with existing transport solutions, offering faster, low-emission travel between key locations. Lilium’s expertise with its innovative Lilium Jet, which boasts high capacity, long range, high speed, minimal noise, and zero operating emissions, is central to this initiative.
The MoU will facilitate the establishment of a network of routes for the Lilium Jet and other eVTOL aircraft, enhancing regional air mobility and connectivity. Sebastien Borel, Lilium’s Chief Commercial Officer, emphasized the partnership’s role in pioneering regional air transport infrastructure in Northern Italy, while Duncan Walker, CEO of Skyports, highlighted the collaboration as a demonstration of Italy’s readiness to embrace the next generation of aviation with significant support from aviation and infrastructure stakeholders.
